Lake Okutadami is a man-made lake formed by the construction of the Okutadami dam.
Constructed in 1961 for the purpose of generating hydroelectric power, it is one of the Japan's largest man-made lake, boasting a volume of 600,000,000 square meters. (Official name: Lake Ginzan)
Surrounded by a Japanese elm forest and several mountains of over 2,000 meters in height, visitors can take a ride on our tour boat and enjoy an up-close look at the abundant nature of the area.
From the the contrast of the fresh vegetation against the lingering snow in spring to the autumn leaves in fall, it plays host to a magnificent array of scenery that changes by the season. In addition to the forty-minute lap of the lake, there is also a route to the popular Oze national park, popular with hikers.
This 300 person capacity paddle steamer is the face of Lake Okutadami. It was designed after the paddle steamer that ran in Lake Mississippi, in the southern USA.
The mid-sized, 150 person capacity Oze's hull is decorated with mizubasho and nikkokisuge flowers, a perfect match for the nature of Okutadami.
The 100 person capacity Shiorimaru is a tour boat that offers a seat to almost all ticket holders, and performs a full lap of the lake, departing from and arriving back at the Okutadami damsite. Its small size enables its passengers to closely experience Okutadami's nature.
