What Is Okutadami?

Okutadami is a secluded region of Niigata Prefecture about 2.5 hours from Tokyo by bullet train, or 3 hours by car. Experience an abundance of nature in all four seasons; in spring, the contrast of the fresh vegetation against the lingering snow; in summer, the dense foliage and refreshing highland air; in fall, the blanket of autumn leaves covering the ground, and in winter, the heaviest snowfall found in Japan.

What is Okutadami Maruyama Ski Resort?

Okutadami Maruyama Ski Resort is a ski resort in the Okutadami area. It is unusual in that business is suspended from the beginning of January through the middle of March due to the heavy snowfall requiring the closure of the surrounding roads. Known as Japan's spring skiing Mecca, on clear days the mountain peak offers an astounding view. Popular with many skiers due to the fine quality of its powder snow and mogul lanes, the vast mountainside features five slopes, with courses that can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to experts.
